First the Greeks then the Romans adopt the prominent column, short beam construction method.  Is this style a statement of the culture's advancement (i.e. We're as big or powerful as Egypt ever was) or are we still limited by the construction materials?  In the absence of a new construction technique or building material, this is how major buildings will look for centuries.
